fiesta fiesta!!

so it's about that time in sb where all the tourists return once again for some good old drunken fun! it's fiesta which means sb is crawling with people, including it's fair share of celebs. at this time each yr michael jorden runds a bball camp at ucsb, and brings all his hot-shot bball friends too. for ex my father met alonzo mourning at a local McDs and if you were willing to pay $200 for cover at O'Malley's you coulda had drinks served by MJ himself last nite - assuming you still had money left to BUY any drinks. but for those of us that don't have that kinda money to throw away, there were tons of other bars, yummy mexican foods and carnivals everywhere. I opted to avoid the beyond sloppy bar scene and opted for a cute carnival where i stumbled on a free Mat Kearney concert. I didn't know him by name, but he sounded good, a little familar in fact. Listened to a couple songs and then decided to head out - but as soon as a walked away, he started singing one of my favorite songs! "nothing left to lose" - by mat kearney - (look it up) haha, that's him! so turned out to be very cool.

4 days and i'm free! :)

getting married

...seems to be the hot topic lately. It’s actually nutz: 3 weddings in 3 weeks and one in December and they are all peers! I've been to my fair share of weddings, but this is the first string where I'm a peer and not at "the family" or "kids" table.

Personally, I am too young to get married - let's just start there.

That being said, I think they are so beautiful and it's easy to get wrapped up in happiness. The one I went to this last weekend was absolutely amazing. Everything about it was perfect. It was elegant and both sets of parents went all out - which is always a plus - but that wasn't what made it so beautiful. To me, it was the true happiness and pure love in their eyes. I think I can honestly say that I've never seen two people so much in love. By the end of the night and a very open bar, I think it's safe to say we were all feeling the love.

To say the least, it was a nice break from the relentless stress that is my life right now.

it's a small world after all...

so i am in the middle of my volunteer shift at the hospital and i hear an RN on the phone talking about her nephew's wedding...she's in the middle of the nurses station, but i wasn't really paying attention until I heard aug 11 and tehachapi. how many weddings could possibly be going on that day, in that (what i can only imagine to be a very small) town? one. haha. so i guess i met chad's aunt. pretty funny - she couldnt believe lauren was my roomate for two yrs. SMALL WORLD. it was a pretty hilarious conversation actually...

AND i'm a klutz: i fell over a chair in the dark and busted my ankle and am now sporting black-and-blue legs. brilliant i know.

Cocaine, Sex, Alcohol, Toothpaste and Proof that Boys are Icky…

Cocaine decreases NT reuptake at the presynaptic terminal, thereby amplifying the stimuli’s effect. (If you’re going to do it you might as well know how it works.) NOTE: You should prolly not do drugs.

Your Sex Drive is controlled by your hypothalamus.

After drinking a lot of alcohol, one may find themselves staggering home. This is b/c alcohol affects the cerebellum (which is the part of the brain that controls balance and coordination).

And I quote “increasing brain pressure can cause the brain to squeeze out through the bottom of the skull like toothpaste”… nice, right?

Proof that boys are icky: they are responsible for passing on hair on the outer ears to their sons. It’s a Y-linked trait (aka: it’s totally the boy’s fault). Ew. (PS If you have either this problem or back hair, a word of advice from girls everywhere...get it taken care of, cause it's kinda, really gross.)

These are the things I learned today…how was you’re day?

nike ipod thingy :)

so my parents are cleaning out our den/office whatever you want to call it b/c...well...they are tired of all my college apt stuff sitting everywhere and would like to find space to put some of it away. BUT it has made for some fun times!! for example, we've found all kindsa really cute photos...additionally, after looking thru my dad's high school yr book i found out that he was senior class president AND that he was voted beau of "most southern belle and beau" - i know right? i guess ill file this under things you wouldn't have guessed about your parents (except in all honesty he's been leader of all kindsa stuff and is the most generous person i know...so i guess it fits). ALSO my mom found all this school stuff that i never thru away - the coolest of which was this book of poems i wrote for my 7th grade eng class. the topics of each poem were really diverse: love, death, heartbreak, happiness, how i've changed, etc...i had no idea i wrote them, and rereading them made me really happy. :)

in other news...i got a nike-ipod thingy!!!!!! it is SO cool. i LOVE it. basically, it's a device that records info about your workouts...how far, how long, #cal, etc. and it has cool features like uploading that info to a common site b/t friends, so that if you all want to do a marathon in hawaii and need to train in diff places, you can check on each other's progress and make sure you're all on the same page. i know, may not seem that exciting, but i think it's way cool - dan gets me and that's pretty much why he's awesome...!!

ok, tata for now...bed time! :)

things you should know...

Fixed the internet today, so here’s the post from yesterday:
so i finally saw music and lyrics (reeeeeeeeally cute if you like music). cute one-liners and words of wisdom as those go for chick flicks.

jay stole and then found my remote.

went to the batting cages and the beach.

pondered life - and was feeling like i had two lives to choose from: the one where i go to school for another 7 yrs of my life and one where i do a teacher for america, get a masters and become a cool teacher... :) and thus have the time to be with my family, go on vacation - have shots of me and nick lachey having sex in mexico - oh wait that was vanesa whatever her name is and NOBODY should have to see those... but u get the idea. i think i'd have more fun in my personal life. ORRRR i could try the life where i am in school for 7 more years, then try to get a job and work for a very long time, everyday, don't get that many vacations and am always on call (cause babies come out at all times of the nite, and i'd never want to be the type of doc that tells her patient to cross her legs and have it in the morning - like many lazy docs do...) but you can see how this would make having a fun personal life different - doable, but diff. thoughts? comments?

additionally, here are some things that you should know:

I twirl my hair when I am distracted or thinking about something

I only say “peachy” when I’m pissed or reeeally sarcastic

I think raisins are too sweet, but I love raisinettes (sp?)

I love music; it captures memories, feelings and emotions effortlessly…

I have about a billion boys named Dan in my life, and amazingly I love them all.

I’m all about the little things

And I’m a hopeless romantic…

happy july 4th

let me start off by saying i just saw a chick flick that was CLEARLY made for boys...basically, a brother and sister are like best friends and live together, and then the brother meets a girl, flies to vegas and gets married - only for the sister to kiss his wife (while she was too drunk to remember) and figure out she was gay. so basically it was a girl-on-girl porno flick disguised as a chick flick. I was pretty indifferent to the movie as a whole, but i will give its writers a point for being creative with the lesbian thing.

anywayz, i had one of the most amazing days of my life last yesterday. (altho the people with me prolly had no idea). It started slow and with a few mistakes, but i went out to the college to study for a bit – and did well on a practice test which clearly always makes the day better. it was such a beautiful day i decided to take my run to the beach (i love this town fyi!) then i watched my nephew play soccer (so cute!) and did some quick shopping before jay came up for the evening- YAY JAY! and you should ALL do that b/c it's awesome to come visit me!!!! He and my family went to out to a bar to see Rebelution (my couz's band play). First off, let me say that I am so proud of my cousin - we basically grew up together and i think i'm more proud of him (for the courage it takes to not only get up and perform but to do it SO well) than i am of anyone else i know... the band was amazing as usual. and jay and i were dancing with friends and singing along after some very strong drinks at other bars (yay for boobs jay:) ) and i was just overcome with the most amazing feeling watching him on stage, my brother a few people behind me, my parents off to the side, and a couple of cousins who were sprinkled throughout the crowd. it's honestly the first time we've all been out to a bar together (we're not so much with the drinking) but it was so super fun! :)

the wonderful-ness continued with "Mexican Breakfast" that Jay (and I?) cooked for ourselves and my parents. it was super yummy! :) then with full stomachs and only a few hours later we had a family bbq. and if u know anything about me i was super happy cause i'm all about family and fun. after that it was just a hot, relaxing and pretty easy-going day (although I did miss spending it with someone for the first time in 4 yrs)

tomorrow it's back to the grinding board, but such is life...

to the girls (and maybe a few boys) out there...

do you ever feel like movies (ahem: romantic comedies) ruin you for the harsh realities of life? sometimes i do, however, other times they just get me excited to live life with the boy and be happy! :)

interesting quote-ish of the nite:
"a relationship is like two people holding the ends of a stick. sometimes the stick is short and you are close together; othertimes you can barely see the person at the other end of the stick, but you just keep holding on. you just keep holding on..."

-ill try to watch some less sappy movies in the future...oceans 13? live free or die hard? :)

last few days...

not too much to write about: the last few days have been filled with studying and hospital stuff - on monday i start in the LAD (labor and delivery dept at SBCH) which I'm actually really excited about. clearly i don't get to catch any babies, but since it's something i'd really like to do when "i'm all grown up" it should be a good experience :)

this week's proudest moment: it took an hour and a half and two boys (about 16-18yrs old) in India, but i got my wireless internet working!! yaaaaaaaay! i am very excited about this.
other happiness comes in the form of my newest baby andrew - the cutest baby every. his smiles and cute little giggles make my day! :)

lastly, i kinda sprained or strained (i SHOULD know which since ive been studyin that for quite some time now...) the other day and it has been SO beautiful and it's been lame not being able to be up and about on it... but i guess it must be better since we went bowling today. "tits mcgee" and even "texa$" brought much luck to my game (thanks ben). not sure if it was the alcohol, but seriously the best time i've ever had bowling...

aaaaaaaahhh!

today was filled with nothing but frustration.

it was a day off from studies, so i thought i'd try to take advantage of the time to relax and get some other stuff done. i hooked up my new amaaaaaazing printer - yay! however, the wireless internet setup was not so easy - and didn't work. additionally, i tried to be a good friend to my best friends today and even that didn't go so well...

oh well. time to put frustrations aside and try to have a nice relaxing evening. watching another movie with my mom - i think this movie nite with mom thing. last nite we saw james bond (which i thought i'd never seen before, only to discover that atherton and i saw it together before he left - ridiiiiiic nite btw :) )

tomorrow's a new day! and hopefully a productive and happy one. that's the goal!
gn all :)

throw back to high school...literally

so yesterday i spent the day studying and walking around ucsb...it is beautiful and the people are so friendly!? why did i not go to school there again? sometimes i wonder...oh wait, i love being a bruin!

today was also another beautiful day (i think you're starting to see a theme here) but it was filled with an unexpected return to my high school. after lunching with a friend at cal taco, we were driving home when we noticed much new activity at my old high school. thus, we stopped and checked it out... so it turns out that within four years of me graduating, that school made all the changes it's been talking about for the last 15yrs. First, they sectioned off the bus-loop and put up a LARGE, modern looking auditorium. for those of u who have seen our otherwise, tin-looking school, this building is too nice to be a part of it. Secondly, they got rid of the freshman basketball courts and build the MOST AMAZING Olympic sized pool. honestly, i was never one for water sports (with the exception of watching the boys water polo team...yummy), but that aquatic center was SO beautiful i'd have to reconsider. Thirdly, they put in handicapped ramps in the Greek theater, and last, but certainly NOT least, they redid the track, but in seating AND the infamous lights in our stadium. Honestly, looks like an entirely different school... congrads.

for those people who have never seen my school, don't care or otherwise cringe at the thought of high school memories, ill move on...basically still unpacking and settling in. spent a few hours at starbucks studying - unfortunately no james franco (sigh) but we know where to find him right lb? ;-)

*off to go watch the james bond movie...nighty-nite!

testing 1, 2, 3...

first time blogger - but it seems that two of my favorite dans have decided to try and keep updated with us, as they venture away from ucla, in the form of a blog - and i thought it'd be fun to try and do the same...

finished college (mostly!) and moved out of my lovely apt in ww. it's hard not to miss my roommates already, altho i suppose it will get more difficult as the reality of it all sinks in. after a mexican breakfast (thanks jay) and a loooooong day of packing (kyle saved me, and suz too) i bid fairwell to my amaaaaazing friends, to ucla and ww, and made my way home.

i am currently living life in the most beautiful hometown ever! :) actually, i've only been here for a few days but the weather has already been fantastic. my goals this summer is to be with my family, relax and apply to med school - something that i am mostly excited about! Not that studying and applying aren't full time jobs, but i do feel a little guilty about not working!! oh well, i'm sure the beaches will help me get over it. speaking of which...i think it's about time i get cleaned up and start the day.

here's to the next chapter in our lives...
*go bruins*
